The Los Angeles Philharmonic, under the baton of their esteemed Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, return for an evening of grand musical exploration with celebrated pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard. The concert marks Maestro Salonen’s sixteenth appearance conducting for CAMA over the past three decades—twelve with the LA Phil and three with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra.

Since his historic triumph at the 1970 Chopin Piano Competition, Garrick Ohlsson has established himself worldwide as one of the great American piano masters of the past 50+ years, a musician of magisterial interpretive and technical prowess. He commands a vast repertoire spanning the entire piano literature, with noted mastery of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and the Romantic composers, as well as works of the 21st century. His comprehensive recordings of Chopin have received international acclaim, cementing his reputation as one of the composer’s greatest living interpreters. He will be returning to the CAMA Masterseries (with an all-Chopin program) for the first time since his virtuosic all-Brahms recital at the Lobero in March 2019, as part of CAMA’s historic 100th Anniversary Season.

CAMA’s 107th Concert Season, A Season of Legacy, invites you to experience the enduring power classical music in live performance. This season, we celebrate the profound legacies of master conductors and the vital importance of diversity to forge connections across generations.
The Granada Theatre’s International Series presents a thrilling lineup of world-renowned orchestras. The season opens with the electrifying Maestro Gustavo Dudamel in his final appearance in Santa Barbara as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, in a program featuring John Adams’s Frenzy and Stravinsky’s era-defining early masterpieces: The Firebird and The Rite of Spring. We welcome back the esteemed Philharmonia Orchestra, London to The Granada Theatre, this time with Principal Conductor Santtu-Matias Rouvali, performing works by Sibelius and Shostakovich. The illustrious Chicago Symphony Orchestra returns under the baton of Music Director Emeritus for Life, Riccardo Muti, presenting Brahms’s Symphony No. 4, Stravinsky, and Ravel’s Boléro. The series concludes with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, led by Fabio Luisi, featuring pianist beloved pianist Hélène Grimaud in Schumann’s Piano Concerto and soprano Sofia Fomina in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4.
At the intimate Lobero Theatre, CAMA’s Masterseries showcases exceptional solo and chamber performances. The season features Canadian master pianist Louis Lortie in an all-Ravel program. Celebrated pianist Emanuel Ax returns with a program of Schubert, Beethoven, and Chopin. The Venice Baroque Orchestra, led by violinist Gianpiero Zanocco, will transport audiences to Venice with a Duel of Bows celebrating Carnivale. And, in a special presentation, the Sphinx Virtuosi, with violinist Randall Goosby, will perform a program titled Visions of Peace, featuring works by ethnically diverse composers.
